    Hey Gary

The issue is apparently related to NameCheap and their hosting implementation conflicting with phpBB. On a base install (initial cPanel setup and then creating the DB) the install of phpBB went fine, but guest posting is borked if using quotes.

    Hey Gary

yeah.. I'm not really that interested in trying to figure the issue out since I have no need nor desire to use phpBB. I may - just for shits and grins - try 3.2 on the site.

    Hey Gary

I don't know about @Sandyman, but now it's got my curiosity up... and that's a horrible thing to do to someone whom desires rest & relaxation.:emoji_eye:

    Hey Gary

I'm well aware of what it's used for... but again, I don't think on the base namecheap shared hosting they use nginx for any content processing/caching.
  5. 13511

    Hey Gary

I don't think phpBB 3.1 is PHP 7.1 compatible - there are issues if I remember correctly. The 3.2 line is PHP 7 ready. And I'm pretty sure namecheap is not using nginx as a front end...

    Hey Gary

And no... I'll continue answering here as I know that within most likelihood the posts won't be wiped at some point in the near future.

    Hey Gary

It's rather simple Gary... the logic line for a guest poster most likely follows a different path/process/checks than the one does for a member. And since not many use that ability it's probably been something that was present for a while in their code base (odds are they refactored it into the 3.2 line) and it didn't rear it's head until some OS/SVC changes came about.

    Hey Gary

Gary, you do realize the the code base for mySQL, Percona and MariaDB all derive from the same line, correct? So, if they are using a newer version of MariaDB, odds are they are also using a newer version of MySQL - and if it's a base code deprecation issue then guess what - it will be present in all 3 most likely.

    Hey Gary

Oh, and as an aside, here are the error logs that deal with the quoting Mon Jun 12 17:56:09 2017] [error] [client 64.188.254.247] File does not exist: /home/tntciqfk/testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/408.shtml, referer: http://testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/posting.php?mode=quote&f=3&t=2&p=2 [Mon Jun 12 17:53:45 2017] [error] [client 64.188.254.247] File does not exist: /home/tntciqfk/testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/408.shtml, referer: http://testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/posting.php?mode=quote&f=3&p=2 [Mon Jun 12 17:47:59 2017] [error] [client 64.188.254.247] File does not exist: /home/tntciqfk/testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/408.shtml, referer: http://testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/posting.php?mode=quote&f=3&t=2&p=2 [Mon Jun 12 17:44:37 2017] [error] [client 64.188.254.247] File does not exist: /home/tntciqfk/testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/408.shtml, referer: http://testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/posting.php?mode=quote&f=3&t=2&p=2 [Mon Jun 12 17:40:12 2017] [error] [client 64.188.254.247] File does not exist: /home/tntciqfk/testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/408.shtml, referer: http://testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/posting.php?mode=quote&f=3&p=2 [Mon Jun 12 17:30:42 2017] [error] [client 64.188.254.247] File does not exist: /home/tntciqfk/testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/408.shtml, referer: http://testbed.tntcomputersvc.com/posting.php?mode=quote&f=3&p=2 408 is a timeout error typically. EDIT: And I haven't been with NameCheap, so another issue may be if they upgraded their mySQL servers lately. 2nd EDIT: Jeez... frigging phpBB doesn't even have an ACP search feature?
  10. 13511

    Hey Gary

Think Gary... the OS typically gets upgraded... as do other packages used by the OS. If there are some shoddy coding lines in phpBB for the guest posting, they could easily be causing issues. You have to remember, you aren't talking professional coders that do a bunch of the free script stuff. Many are just hobbyist. I'm honestly not going to spend a lot of time chasing the issue down as I have absolutely NO plans on ever using phpBB for anything.
  11. 13511

    Hey Gary

Gary, it still doesn't preclude a coding issue between them. Odds are there are issues on both parties. A lot depends on what NameCheap is using to lock the systems down, and it also depends on whether phpBB is using what they would class as unsafe calls.
  12. 13511

    Hey Gary

Once we get back I'll set up another test bed for myBB to see if it has the same issues.... if so, then odds are it's going to to be a NameCheap issue - otherwise it's a coding issue with phpBB most likely.
  13. 13511

    Hey Gary

What's taking me so long Gary is I'm not running it on that primary domain (it's used for something else) and had to create a sub-domain to utilize.
  14. 13511

    Hey Gary

OK.. base install on NameCheap (no changes to the cPanel settings) and no changes to Apache/PHP result in the same issue that Gary has over at his site. Granted I haven't done much of anything to it other than allow guest posting real quick (about to go to Outback in Tyler to eat supper). So, until further testing I have to agree with Gary it's a NameCheap issue. yourdomain.com - Index page
  15. 13511

    Hey Gary

OK... got the 9.98 account purchased and am in the process of uploading the files for phpBB 3.1 to it. Once they are uploaded I'll start the setup process - already have a DB and user created.

    Hey Gary

Gary.. did you not fully read the post? I thought that was very clear. I help Tim (The Jack Army) out and have to use his account to access his related data to manage the SSL's. NameCheap monitors for single IP accessing multiple accounts and then performs a lock on the accounts. Odds are Tim's account has the same issue. And I don't use WAMP. If I need to set up a local environment, I set up either a VM running a Linux loadout (CentOS or Debian) or I'll grab one of my spare machines to churn out a setup. The WAMP screenshot looks like something that is generated by that install and not a real PHP info page (which is very simple to create and access to get the true PHP info without any outside program intervention that a panel access of the info may add). Hey Gary

If it works fine on a default account... then it is some of those cPanel tweaks he's done that he has no clue what are most likely. Or he's modified his script with his most excellent coding skillz. I've got to wait another 45 minutes to use the 2FA again since I've used my allotment up on password resets.
  18. 13511

    Hey Gary

About to grab one of those high end $9.98 NameCheap hosting accounts and stick phpBB on it to try out..... that's if NameCheap can ever get my account unlocked since I helped Tim out with his site and they monitor for multiple accounts from the same IP.
  19. 13511

    Hey Gary

The only free work Tracy Perry does for people is for Tim over at The Jack Army and a few local offices/clinics around town. As for others on the interwebz - nope, I've stopped doing free stuff for people.

    Hey Gary

Did Gary get confused as to which account he was posting under? [ATTACH=full]1041._xfImport[/ATTACH] Or is he talking about himself in the 3rd party? Or is he in some way referring to the "guest' post as "you"? With the standard Gary gibberish, it's rather hard to translate this early in the morning. Guess I'll go play some BF1 and kill something.
  21. 13511

    Hey Gary

It must really be a bitch to have a host and a script that doesn't allow the use of a major feature of all forum scripts...the ability to quote. And Gary, I don't doubt that a few from here go over there to stir the pot as your "guest" posters... the difference is I don't really give two shits, much less a singular one.
  22. 13511

    Hey Gary

Surprising how many positive comments I get from it... of course, I do get accused of dyeing my hair since my beard is white (mostly) and I have very little matching in what's on top of my head.

    Hey Gary

Actually the screenshot is very telling. [ATTACH=full]1040._xfImport[/ATTACH]

    Hey Gary

mmmm... pretty sure the 9100 IS the one with the laser guide from their 9000's series... but yes, mine does have a laser guide. Find it convenient for the mustache area. And yes, I buy what I need and don't really worry about the cost.... benefit of having he spare funds to do it.

    Hey Gary

[ATTACH=full]1037._xfImport[/ATTACH] And don't need those Gary.. I can afford real grooming already have a BeardTrimmer 9100 that does just fine. Just because when you try to grow one yours appears like this [ATTACH=full]1038._xfImport[/ATTACH] there is no need to be jealous.
