The domain actually isn't bad. He could conceivably get some money for it. Not a fortune obviously, but it's saleable.

Oh dear Gary. An addon / style developer joining your site to help you with one of his products, doesn't count as a real member. But keep trying.

After laughing at GTB talking to himself all day, I'm off to bed.

After watching GTB make a complete prong of himself, I'm off to bed.

After a successful evening of being unable to thrash GTB due to him having fled back to TAZ, I'm off to bed.

This needs a bump, just in case any of us forget that the "Grim Reaper" character is NOT Gary, it's a completely different person who has taken over the site.

Oops now there's a third 'GTB' account as well. So now you have: Grim Reaper (Admin) Gringo GTB And all with the exact same grammatical quirks. How odd.

It's slightly more complex than that. Gary renamed his GTB admin account to Grim Reaper. Then he created a new GTB account which wasn't an admin, so he could 'talk to the new owner'. Then he strangely renamed that second GTB account to Gringo. Psychologists would have a field day with all of this....

They need to keep releasing 1.x versions to keep the license renewals ticking over. If there's no updated versions, there's no licence renewals. Incidentally I'm not criticising this business model. They need to keep the cash coming in, and rightly so.

Yes, I do. You've read it wrong. I was banned (at the time) because I worked for vBulletin. The tenses need to match.

I was banned because I worked for vBulletin....

Unusually, I agree with Bob. TAZ are the architects of their own downfall. Despite me being banned there (I'm banned everywhere!), I don't wish them any ill, and I would rather this was not happening. It does look like a gradual meltdown though, I will admit. The 'Shawn G' nonsense yesterday has convinced me that all is not well over there.

Welcome to the 'TAZ BANNED' club. :)

Well it will have been around that time (2012) that Gary banned me from one of his earlier forums, claiming I'd given my account to Kier Darby. I think he had a Kier 'thing' going on back then.

Gary's replaced it with a phpBB installation. This means he's back in the world of free forums, so the platform will change on a weekly basis. He may even start a site on ProBoards again. Not worth joining any of them, he will delete the lot on a regular basis. We've been here before, many times, over the years.

I agree, and this has been a long standing issue. Related to it is sites offering moderator positions as a reward for high post count. Absolutely not the way to go. Start a site, and moderate it yourself. If it takes off...which most don't...then, and only then, consider appointing moderators, and only do it from within your existing user base.

I mentioned this before, but AdminAddict was getting very busy back in 2009, most of it was about vBulletin 4 and was the first real example of 'vB Drama'. Then the owner decided he didn't want vB Drama posts, so he deleted them all and banned such discussion. The site was dead and abandoned within weeks. A few years later, AdminExtra starts getting some vB Drama posts, and also some of the newer XF Drama posts due to the developers disappearing at the time. Things get pretty active. Then up pops Brad as a moderator, who decides he doesn't want this sort of thing, and proceeds to delete and close threads. The site was dead and abandoned within months. Then last year TAZ decided, first that it didn't want any pro-vB posts, nor any anti-XF posts (which was around the time they banned me), then latterly that they didn't want any vB Drama or XF Drama posts at all. Have a guess what is now happening to the site. My own site has continued to thrive precisely because we do not censor other than in extreme circumstances (such as illegal stuff or libel). Indeed, I am regularly insulted and abused on my own forum, as indeed Dave is here. Obviously, allowing abuse isn't going to suit every site, the issue is not so much allowing abuse but stopping the pointless biased censorship and heavy handed policing that is now typical of most forums on the internet. That is why so many people prefer Facebook and Twitter nowadays (both of which I despise incidentally).

I agree with with most of Sheldon's remarks, but Flarum / Discourse etc are not the solution. The solution is forum admins and moderators need to stop acting like personal censors and just let things flow. And stop banning 'controversial' posters. And stop assuming any opinion different to your own is 'troublemaking'. The software platform is not the problem, nor is it the solution,

I can still see that pic of the house with two people stood in the doorway....which I believe to be Daniel and his partner.

Ignore lists are for cowards. :) Better to not have anyone on your ignore list, but just actually ignore people.

I never bothered with another account. I have no desire to post there again. They made their position clear, and I am happy to abide by it.

And, it's a potentially joyous opportunity because many of us here are people who have not always got on elsewhere. It's not dissimilar to how my site got started and fourteen years later it's still going strong. I was trying to tell Gary he could have done the same but he wasn't listening.

Having run a forum full of experienced trolls for over fourteen years, I've long ago learned not to get involved in sockpuppet guessing games. I just take each post at face value and reply, or not, as I see fit

Yeah, isn't it just. I'm dead clever like that, see. Always popping up when you least expect it. So, why not tell us who you sre, instead of hiding behind a guest post? Everyone knows who I am.
