13511 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Dumdum is cute when he gets mad. It is SO easy getting him wound up. I really need to find another hobby that is more beneficial but it's a way to spend the spare moments. I'm being nice over on the XF2 site but it would be SO easy to show him to be the fool he is. And Gary, the issue with language is it is a precise tool but you use it like one does ketchup... you slather it all over the place and nobody ever really knows what you are trying to say. You have great difficulty following a logical (that's a hard word for you) thought process or discussion. Quote
13511 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Please Gary.. invest in a fucking dictionary or use Google to find the meaning of a word and English language structure (that would be a contextually appropriately constructed sentence and not GarySpeak). Here, I highlighted it for you since you are apparently to fucking ignorant to understand the logical question. Where do you see a definitive statement there? Typically that's what a question mark indicates... an interrogative (oh, there's another one of those big words you need to look up). So no, there was no "pwning" by Chris. All your statement does is add one more brick to the wall that proves your ignorance of the working of the English language. Quote
SneakyDave Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Like you said, Gary doesn't understand the definition of words more than 4 characters long. It's almost like he's trolling, or just a sad, out of touch, 60 year old. I mean, Howie's that age, but at least he has a (Mexican) degree, and somewhat found love. 13511 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 (edited) And on a related note... Hey Gary, which is a better all-around guitar for strumming on in a group of friends Martin 000-18E Retro or Martin OMC-18E or Martin OMC-16E or Martin D-18E Retro Or maybe something without the electronics (which I can add later) like a Martin OM-28. I'm not really wanting the dreadnought style, but can live with it if you think it's a better sounding (more low end output). I actually would rather have the smaller body guitar though.... and no, not interested in the newer Gibsons and already have a Taylor. Want something with that authentic "Martin" sound. It also needs to be well suited for strumming and finger picking. Edited June 23, 2017 by 13511 Quote

13511 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Never mind Gary.. just ordered the OM-28. Should be here by the 27th. :innocent: Now, just need to decide if I want to sell the Taylor or keep it for the camp jam sessions. 2 Quote

13511 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 I would keep the Taylor for camping and leave the $3,000 Martin at home. That's kinda what I'm leaning towards. Just don't like the way the Taylor sounds or feels compared to the Martin I got to fondle the other day. But for a camp guitar the Taylor 114e would do fine most likely. I decided to go with a standard acoustic since I can always add the electronics to it later without having to have big holes in the side of the guitar that the stock ones have. The bad thing is I still don't give it the time I need to for getting good. I hit it every now and then when I think of it. But I'm thinking it's probably because I just don't like the Taylor as much as I thought I did the more I use it. Quote
13511 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 And to prevent the standard Gary thing of "sure you did, let's see pictures" (since it's not in yet) here's the invoice for you Gary. Quote
13511 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Guitar lessons are only $80 a month here and already signed up with my wife's relative to learn. He's a classical guitarist and has a masters degree in music education. And it shouldn't be hard to learn - just want to get the "correct" basics down which is why the instruction. Already can play a keyboard pretty well (self taught) and still know the ins and outs of a trumpet (HS band). Figure if I'm paying someone to teach me I'm more inclined to be more "into" it and keep practicing. And $3,000 for a Martin is one of their mid-range guitars. Some of their nicer ones hit up around $60,000 (MSRP). And as for "why post the receipt"... do we need to go back through the Spider debacle where you were pwned? BTW, the Miata is the "girls" version of that ride. And Jimi primarily played Gibson electrics (he was partial to the flying V format/style). Think more along the lines of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Curt Cobain, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and a few others. Quote
Paul Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 And Jimi primarily played Gibson electrics (he was partial to the flying V format/style). Nope, he played a Fender Stratocaster most of the time. A Strat will probably be my next guitar... although a Gibson Les Paul or SG would be nice. Gary thinks learning a new skill is stupid because it takes practice and determination, we know dumdum can't handle either. Quote

Gary thinks learning a new skill is stupid because it takes practice and determination, we know dumdum can't handle either. Yeah... saw his favorite was a Stratocaster.. in his later years he started using the Gibson's. At Woodstock he used a '68 Stratocaster. According to various resources he used others also - Flying Vs, Les Pauls, SGs, Jaguars, and a range of acoustics. What was neat about him was he typically used a right hand guitar and he was a left hander. It's part of what gave him his unique sound - along with the use of different string gauges. It's not a style of guitar playing that I'm after though. I'm more along the lines of John Denver, Johnnie Cash, etc. And once one stops learning one may as well dig themselves a hole, crawl in and die. Quote
Paul Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 There's a really good documentary about Jimi Hendrix on Netflix that my wife and I just watched. Sandyman Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Gary's taken up the art of sneaker collecting. Gotta start somewhere, so why not Walmart for hi-tech's I guess. Next up, some canvas high tops, fake Chuck Taylor unisex knockoffs straight from China Alibaba. Of course he has to save his pennies first, so it'll be a few months for the new kicks. Poor bastard. 13511 Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 (edited) Actually Gary, I'll talk about it in a thread if I want to... that way it will be retained, unlike 99.998% of whatever gets posted over on your site. And nope, there are already plenty of guitar forums out there that I'll be participating in. And yes Gary, I do enjoy playing it. Turns out that the action height is tall on the Taylor and needs to be lowered. But I honestly prefer the sound of the Martin to the Taylors as well as the neck being a tad more comfortable. Typically folks who "give it up in the end" have been using crappy equipment that is harder to learn on and get the "sound" that they expect. And no, it's not that "hard" to learn to play proper. I purchased what I wanted this time. And yes, I can play one.. just not well - that's what the personal lessons are to address. It has more to do with finger placement than anything. As Alex and I discussed, learn a bad trait when self-taught and it carries through with you. Oh, and here is the guy I'm talking about. It's kind of like playing racquetball. When I had a shitty racquet I didn't enjoy it as much as when I got a better racquet. I've found that tends to go into other areas of endeavors (woodworking, metal working, etc). Use low end stuff and your results are not as good as using better equipment. And as for a "whim" on the car - you weren't present for the discussion of different vehicles. My final determination was based upon the fact that I like the sportiness of a motorcycle, but don't like the fact that to many drivers are DWHUA now. Much easier to survive when surrounded by metal than sitting on it if hit by one of said DWHUA drivers. It also gets a LOT better mileage than the Jeep Wrangler I was looking at and much more fun in the areas that I now drive (no off-road stuff since I've pretty much quit hunting and fishing). But the ultimate reason I got it... was because I liked it and wanted it. Really don't need any other reason than that - same as with the guitar. Even if I don't "play it" it will still have value later and can always pass it on to my son. Edited June 24, 2017 by 13511 Quote
