Yes.

Hear me out.

It's been about 7 years since XF2 was mentioned.

Currently the three (or two, depending on who you ask for an opinion) devs are working on both the 1 series and developing the 2 series.

Why not stop with 1? Sans a security issue, it works very well, is durable, etc.... they're isn't any features being added, nothing. Small (not site crushing) bugs. That's what's being looked into.

With every new 1.5.x release, more bugs (again, nothing major) are introduced, taking development time from the 2 series. Lock the bug forum now. If something appears that is going to halt sites from operating, issue a fix and move on. The current pace is numbing.

Eventually, the steam will run out. Every .x.x that gets released pushes back 2.

If this was the idea, then they should have kept adding features and stayed on the 1 series (kidding, relax) .

I'm really not sure what to think..... is actually a bit disappointing to see the progress, or lack of, with the new software.

I know i don't code, i know i don't know the time length required, etc. However, from XF1 beta to release, seemed faster. Makes ya wonder a bit.

We'll all be pretty disappointed if XF2 isn't ground breaking and innovative.

Personally, it's all a big meh to me.

There will be a few overzealous risk takers, thinking XF2 will improve their spot on Google, but I don't see anything on the horizon as a killer app that's going to make me move away from XF 1.x. I don't even think it'll make a dent in any market share of what IPB or vBulletin has, but of course we haven't seen anything yet.

Remember when the resource manager was mentioned, and everybody went ape shit over the kinds of things people thought it could provide? CMS, Articles, Blogs, etc.

I agree, comparing the 2 versions 1.x and 2.x the development time seems to be vastly longer for 2.x than getting 1.x out to the masses.

From what I read from their scant posts, there is nothing special about 2.x. It's just different coding to improve 3rd party development. Make some things faster ect.

As for bugs in 1.x there are 2 pages of bugs for future fix. Not show stoppers but bugs none the less. So out comes 2.x. More bugs, more time fixing 2.x but there are still the 1.x bugs for some unforeseeable future fix.

2.x isn't going to be a be all to end all that 1.x was when it first came out so I don't see any reason to renew all my 12 licenses any time soon for promises.

I honestly can't see any reason to renew our attempt to start anything new with the future of XF software...

There needs to be more info, or i can see many moving forward on other platforms.

Sounds a CODE FREEZE is needed, lol. One of the most stupid terms I've ever heard

7 years since they mentioned version 2? Man I'm getting old.

They want a version 2.x to write out all the dependencies they used to get 1.x out the door so fast. They want to write everything themselves like back in the vBulletin days....seems to be taking a lot of time.

Better to write it themselves rather than outsourcing or hiring random coders. Take vB5 for example, not the way to code, white it yourself.

Didn't realize the exaggeration wasn't oozing out of my post with that number. At the end, i did mention i was a huge fan of XF. I know the time-frame, really.

They need to keep releasing 1.x versions to keep the license renewals ticking over.

If there's no updated versions, there's no licence renewals.

Incidentally I'm not criticising this business model. They need to keep the cash coming in, and rightly so.
