I thought it might be interesting to have a sort of unofficial 'log' of any forums everyone is banned from.

I am (as far as I know) banned from the following:

TAZ

Admin Talk

XenForo

I don't think there are any others.

I'm only banned on TAZ, at the moment.

I've been temporarily banned on a couple of other forums before, but TAZ is the only one that's permanent.

Well, what kind of genre or radius are we talking about here? Admin boards that are still in operation?

TAZ

Ellislab.com

Latest version of GTB's experiment, if that counts

I could probably name a dozen from over 10 years ago

That's it.. Sheldon was the only person to ever ban me. :eyes:

Just out of curiosity, when he banned you which I'm pretty sure you deserved it, did he ever asked you to lick his balls? No homo.

Placed on Moderation several times at xF

What do you have to do to get Sheldon to ban you?

Who told you that? It's complete rubbish. I turned up one day and my account was banned.

What I *have* said, is that after they banned me, I will never, ever return, no matter what the circumstances. I'm quite sure they don't want me to return, so that's all ok.

There are other, better admin forums out there. THough frankly, I'm bored with the whole 'admin niche' now.

I was looking for the post that mentioned that, but I can't seem to find it. Perhaps it was for another reason then. :scream:

As best I can tell, I was banned due to complaints for the Church of Xenforology regarding my non-compliant posts....I had become very forthright in challenging people's lies about vBulletin (and, indeed, other software...I recall on several occasions calling people out over lies told about both XenForo itself, and also Invision Power Board). The bulk of it was vBulletin stuff though. Lies are lies, and I will always call them out, or challenge people to prove what they say if I have any doubts.

What started to happen was that my posts calling out these lies, or pointing out foul abuse aimed at me, started to get removed. Not all of them, but some of them. Then I got 'threadbanned' from one of my own threads, meaning I couldn't respond while the staff allowed insults and lies to be told about me. Which, in itself, I don't actually care about too much, but I'll be blowed if I'll just let people get away with it unchallenged.

Then there was a bit of a relent, my 'threadban' got lifted, and things seemed to calm down somewhat. Then one day I logged in to be greeted with a ban message.

I contacted Lisa, not to challenge the ban, as by then it was too late - ban me and I'm gone for good - however she did agree to remove my stickies, since I rightly said I wasn't prepared to let them use my help 'articles' (they were just ordinary posts stickied) if they didn't want me on the site. I believe they removed them, or at least unstickied them, but again I didn't care enough to follow it up.

I think at one point I had a redirect set on my vB5 demo site, which only affected users coming from the links to it in TAZ threads. It redirected people back to TAZ. However, I removed that after a day or so, since it only really punished ordinary readers of TAZ, who I mostly had no issue with.

Over the years TAZ has either banned or driven away, staff from most of the major software platforms. There used to be loads from vBulletin, now there's just Joe and Paul. I think Invision had a rep there last time I looked (which was months ago), and WBB might have had someone there, but other than that, it's a desert.

A shame but that's clearly the type of site they want.

Paul's new forum still has a long way to go, it's not fair to compare the two. Whether his forum will surpass TAZ or not is to be determined in the future but to call it better than TAZ at this very moment is so typical of your bullshit. You can hate TAZ and acknowledge it as the best thing out there (or rather the only one surviving the relevancy) at the same time if you only have a modicum of intellectual honesty.

I don't think it IS the best thing out there. It perhaps has the most activity, which is not remotely the same.

I also don't hate it, so you managed to be wrong in almost every part of your post.

It was my understanding that Mark was banned by choice also. Maybe that thread is hidden now.

What about the Scrotnig userid? Is that banned?

He was banned by his request in 2014. But then he came back and changed his name to Scrotnig, and yes that account is banned, but I can't seem to find a documented reason why.

Yes that is pretty much the case. I asked them to 'close my account' previously. The issue at that time was that they introduced a rule insisting that I (and any other software staff) must identify myself as 'vBulletin Staff' and accept their statement that any such staff WERE posting on behalf of the companies we worked for. This was after pressure from people who constantly followed us around posting 'is this an official statement from vBulletin?' and suchlike. I believe a few started complaining to the company. Disclaimers in sigs started to appear, and this seemed to fan the flames of the hate mob still further.

I, and I believe some others, could not accept this, because nobody is authorised to make 'official statements on behalf of the company', so to protect myself, comply with the terms of my contract, and to protest against such a ludicrous rule, I asked them to close my account, which they duly did.

Not long afterwards the issue got resolved....Howard got in touch by email and basically said they'd had second thoughts about that idea. I returned, but asked for my name to be changed to 'Scrotnig', which is a name I often use on sites to obscure my real name. I asked for 'Formerly Mark.B' to be specified as my user title, to avoid any confusion, but I wanted a separation from the name I used on the support forums, given the attitude of some of the TAZ posters.

That account got banned against my wishes a year or so later for - as far as I can tell - the reasons outlined in my earlier post.

Are you having amnesia or something?

What was your original claim?

That TAZ is not 'the best admin site'. That is my opinion. It's perfectly fine if you don't agree, but you're not likely to change my view on the subject.

I don't, however, 'hate' TAZ. They are a commercial forum and they need to do what they believe to be best for their site. I don't bear them any grudges for banning me, but I don't, and never did, consider them the 'best admin site'.

The actual best admin site, for me, was AdminAddict in the days when Nick owned it and before he lost interest. Unfortunately he ruined it by listening to people who said 'don't allow all the vB drama stuff'. So he stopped allowing it and the site - which at one point even had the then manager of vBulletin, Ray Morgan, posting on it - died. Then AWS bought it and it died even more.
