First thing: Get a custom style and get rid of the 20+ default styles with different widths and font sizes.

Forum Board, yeah, that's a little confusing.

 

I think he needs to ditch the blogs, filebase, and gallery. It's hard, even for him, to distinguish between blogs and forum posts. If his goal is to generate a social community that everybody contributes to, then stick with the forum. If he wants to do what he's doing lately, starting his own topics, then just keep the blog, and delete the forums.

 

Ditch the chat until you have more regular members, then enable it just for them.

 

Don't call out other members for posting other places, and not your own "forum board".

 

Don't publicize what bannings, restrictions, and unbannings you've done throughout the day.

 

Don't steal other sites' content.

 

Don't create premium subscriptions unless there is something you're going to provide to members that will make it worth their while.

 

Don't claim members are pedophiles.

See GTB, what Dave posted is exactly what you should be doing. You wont do it though for whatever reason(s) you have.

 

I would hide the dashboard and make the forum the landing page. In your case, the dashboard is just redundancy that no one cares about. Get rid of the empty categories and forums. Stop changing your mind after you do something just because you are starved for attention. You don't ban someone, lift their ban, place them in restricted groups, ban them again, place them in a non restricted group, ban them again and then lift their ban once more just because things are slow on your forum... it just makes everyone else think you are crazy.

 

The forum is pretty much finished now and resigned myself to the fact that it is.

 

You could turn things around if you take the advice given to you here. It wont happen overnight but if you had some patience it could.

 

Since you wont do any of the above, you'll get more money out of your licenses now, than if you wait until 4.2 is released and they all need to be renewed.

Chasing a upgrade is normally a bad idea too, in my opinion. It isn't going to bring new members or content to your site, it's just going to give an admin more toys to play with.
