13511 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Gary, I've been on support calls that have lasted 6 HOURS in one day before (and moved from a landline to a cell phone due to needed to get in some places for equipment modifications). So 30-40 minutes in chat isn't anything. I've also had support calls that have extended over a 3 day period @ several hours each day. Apparently the script logic is fubar at some point that causes it to exceed their max execution time. It's probably a combination of an oversold server (namecheap) and a poorly optimized segment of code that is causing the issue. So until NameCheap reduces their server load (doubtful due to monetary return desires) or phpBB optimizes that code logic it will be borked on NameCheap. All the more reason to just get another hosting provider (but that issue can come up with them also) or get a VPS. Quote
Paul Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 It's incredible that so much effort has gone into fixing an issue on a one member forum and an issue that no one else in the world has. No one would believe it if wasn't Gary having the problem. Quote
13511 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 It's incredible that so much effort has gone into fixing an issue on a one member forum and an issue that no one else in the world has. No one would believe it if wasn't Gary having the problem. As I said.. different things perk my interest, and when that happens I like to see what the issue is. This actually would effect anyone on the cheap shared hosting plan provided by NameCheap. And I've done similar to this before, it's just that it's been documented via my Skype convo's with others - something I have no desire to do with Gary. And honestly.. being retired I have the time now to do that kind of stuff when something more interesting has not presented itself. Quote
13511 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Â Gary, you can change that setting all you want in the cPanel settings.. but what is actually used is hard coded on the server at 30 by THEIR server administrators. Any setting in cPanel that exceeds 30 is ignored for actual execution of the script and the max of 30 is used. The only way that setting is actually valid to increase is if you have your OWN server (VPS or dedicated) that cpanel is installed on and you control the parameters of it. Quote
13511 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Gary, as I said, it's a logic issue in the script coding that is causing php to exceed the execution timeout. Odds are even if you raised it to 45, 60 or 300 it would have the same issue, but you might get an error return. It is something that (without the php error logs) may never be fixed. It IS something that is specific to NameCheap, but it is going to take close interaction between the phpBB developers and NameCheap to resolve. And submitting it to moderation has nothing to do with it on my site as my posts are set to be unmoderated for guests... they have the same access levels for posting as a registered user and bypass any moderation queue or captcha/spam features/functions. I've already spent way more time with it than I intended. If you want it to work, I'd suggest moving your site to another hosting provider other than NameCheap. 1 Quote
13511 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 (edited) Gary, your issue will be resolved if you go to phpBB 3.2 for initial quotes. Testbed #2 - Index page will show you that it works fine. I just tested it for an initial quote.. BUT... when you quote a post with a quote in it, it is borked.. so it looks like it is something in their coding practice. You simply can't use the " mark on NameCheap in a guest post. And the issue is Gary, that the script is ended (that portion) after 30 seconds... so if it takes 45 to complete the process they use it will never complete. SneakyDave Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 30 seconds is a pretty standard PHP timeout limit, if thats what they're talking about. But it could also be an Apache thread timeout limit. But it probably isn't a processing time problem. It's probably some function or SQL that is shitting the bed and not finishing . It's interesting to know that Gary claims that he has spent so much time with support on this issue, yet it appears it hasn't been more than 10 minutes Quote "I wonder if wife Susie knows about the vile crap he posts on his site and how it fits in with her "youth ministry"?" - Dr. Howard Rosenzweig, former owner of TheAdminZone
13511 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Yes, I'm pretty sure it's something in their code itself that is causing a process to run overly long.... especially seeing as it is specific to guest posts with that content. Mine is set at 45 seconds... and that is honestly a LONG time. The only time I see this happening is when using PHPMyAdmin and trying to upload a large DB for importation or downloading a large DB. The script usually times out on you. Quote
Sandyman Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Gary, You have all the time in the world you desk weasel. The problem is, Tracy talks to them and gets an answer in 10 minutes. You've been talking to them for months, and they STILL don't understand your gibberish broken ass grammar that you speak in. This just proves you are a fucking imbecile of the highest degree, you've known for months Namecheap is causing the problem, and you signed up for another Namecheap account. Capital IMBECILE. Tracy is retired, and his time is still more valuable then yours, how sorry is that?   Try and speak proper english when you talk to them, maybe they'll understand better and be able to resolve your problem in 10 minutes and not 4 months. OR, next time you live chat them, ask them if they have a support tech that speaks Yoda'nese. Shaking my head..how can a 60 year old man child be so dumb. 13511 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Well, debug has been commented out of the config.php for a bit already and no errors show on screen... so time to see if they write to a log file. Quote

And at least one of us have posted a video of us saying Hi to Gary to disprove his ramblings, whereas others have been the cowardly lions (and yes, I include both users from here and Gary). Here you go.. Just for you I'll post it again.   Pretty sure that at 189lbs unless I was 2'9" my ass wouldn't be considered monstrous large. And if I was 2'9" it would be apparent in the above video. Basically was manufactured in the late 70's/early 80's from what I can gather. I got it in a bundle of pipes my wife purchased for me to restore. It's one of my better smoking pipes and has an extremely large chamber so I can smoke away for a while on one charge of tobacco. 1 Quote

13511 Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 I only have two pipes one is a Curva the other is a Savinelli Alligator. I only have about 28 on my shelving. Most are briars, but I have 2 Muhsin meers that I'm partial to. I've got about 16 different Petersons, 4 Thomas Cristiano signature series, a couple of GBD's a Grabow and a few other off brand that are my normal smokers. I have numerous more that I am restoring to sell on my site. It looks like a tobacco store on the unit I store my tobacco and pipes on. I have 42 quart jars filled with various tobaccos (English and aro's) and then about 20 1.5 pint jars. Right now I'm about to fire up some Larrys Blend. Been hitting the Lane RLP6 and 1Q pretty heavy this past few weeks. Quote

Ruby Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Gary I work I can afford pipes I make more in a month then you do in a year. Being in my 20's has nothing to do with anything.
