mmmm... pretty sure the 9100 IS the one with the laser guide from their 9000's series... but yes, mine does have a laser guide. Find it convenient for the mustache area.

I did that a few weeks ago, bought a cheap shared account, it worked fine on phpbb. I didn't edit any code or have any plug-in's though, just wanted to prove Gary is an imbecile, which I did, it worked fine.

If it works fine on a default account... then it is some of those cPanel tweaks he's done that he has no clue what are most likely. Or he's modified his script with his most excellent coding skillz.

I thought that was very clear. I help Tim (The Jack Army) out and have to use his account to access his related data to manage the SSL's.

NameCheap monitors for single IP accessing multiple accounts and then performs a lock on the accounts. Odds are Tim's account has the same issue.

 

And I don't use WAMP. If I need to set up a local environment, I set up either a VM running a Linux loadout (CentOS or Debian) or I'll grab one of my spare machines to churn out a setup.

 

The WAMP screenshot looks like something that is generated by that install and not a real PHP info page (which is very simple to create and access to get the true PHP info without any outside program intervention that a panel access of the info may add).

OK... got the 9.98 account purchased and am in the process of uploading the files for phpBB 3.1 to it. Once they are uploaded I'll start the setup process - already have a DB and user created.

OK.. base install on NameCheap (no changes to the cPanel settings) and no changes to Apache/PHP result in the same issue that Gary has over at his site. Granted I haven't done much of anything to it other than allow guest posting real quick (about to go to Outback in Tyler to eat supper).

So, until further testing I have to agree with Gary it's a NameCheap issue.

What's funny is that he knew it was NameCheap causing the problem all along, yet #dumdum the desk weasel bought a new hosting package (supposedly) from NAMECHEAP to run his new domain and phpBB on, knowing it wasn't working.

Once we get back I'll set up another test bed for myBB to see if it has the same issues.... if so, then odds are it's going to to be a NameCheap issue - otherwise it's a coding issue with phpBB most likely.

Gary, it still doesn't preclude a coding issue between them. Odds are there are issues on both parties. A lot depends on what NameCheap is using to lock the systems down, and it also depends on whether phpBB is using what they would class as unsafe calls.

Think Gary... the OS typically gets upgraded... as do other packages used by the OS. If there are some shoddy coding lines in phpBB for the guest posting, they could easily be causing issues. You have to remember, you aren't talking professional coders that do a bunch of the free script stuff. Many are just hobbyist.

I'm honestly not going to spend a lot of time chasing the issue down as I have absolutely NO plans on ever using phpBB for anything.

Gary, you do realize the the code base for mySQL, Percona and MariaDB all derive from the same line, correct?

So, if they are using a newer version of MariaDB, odds are they are also using a newer version of MySQL - and if it's a base code deprecation issue then guess what - it will be present in all 3 most likely.
