When will GTB Close his latest General Discussion Forum?

This may be the longest stretch of time that GTB has allowed his general discussion forum (http://generaldiscussion.com) to go unpruned.

 

Mood swings and fits of rage have forced him in the past to basically reset his forum without warning, and relaunch it later, removing any trace of past members of postings. I don't think anybody really knows why he does that, but that's just Gary being Gary I guess.

 

Gary came close to closing his latest forum (built on Woltlab Burning Board) back in December, claiming it was going to close on December 7th, but it never came to pass. He changed his mind again, and deleted his "I'm closing again" announcement.

 

One of his members claimed that Gary would have closed his current forum down "5 times already" if he didn't actually use a paid forum script, which may be a pretty low estimate.

How long will it be before he actually closes it again? Assuming he started this version around July 2015?

I'm a little more than shocked that it's been open as long as it has. I guess with so many places for GTB to steal topics from he has managed to keep the activity going for awhile. Wait until there's a couple of days with no one posting and you might see him temporarily close his forum. GTB did mention that he liked the looks of WBB 4.2 so much that he might open a second forum.

GTB closed and removed his forum today.

 

Then changed his mind again, pulled the last known backup he had, and re-aunched the site, like he has 5 times in the past.

bump. Gary closed his board down for day a week or so ago, I think it was in late April. Of course, he was just joking, so I'm not sure if that was a "legitmate" closure.

After almost a month and a half, Gary wiped his forum clean again. Will he restore it in a couple of days? Only time will tell.

 

It's good to see him happy again, without having to put up with that spam and self-abuse.

It saddens me today that I've had to make a very drastic decision of spending hours wasted wiping away 8,000 posts from this forum, 8 months worth of forum postings down the drain - me now having to start things all over again from scratch with the site. The past month I've been very aware that most topics listed had been purposely taken off topic filled with nothing but abuse towards other forums and people on them, even targeting this forum and me personally the most of all. I've had enough of seeing it today, so the forum has been wiped clean.

Glad to get rid of some forum users

 

Some of the members deleted will not berejoining this forum again, neither am I interested taking any further part in what is being said on another forum about me and this place. That forum and the people using it shall remain nameless, no matter what antics they want to keep playing still. No users from that forum is getting back on this forum again as a member.

 

Does it ever pay being Mr Nice guy

 

I've been too soft in the way I've run things on this forum, yet again! Me always letting things "slide by" past me trying to be "welcoming with members", letting them get away with too much said - which then only ends up backfiring on you being that way. So a lot of blame falls on me for letting this happen with the forum board, I'll make no excuse for that one.

 

So a new "message notice" has been added to registration page today while I've been at it, anyone thinking of joining now knows exactly what won't be tolerated here. Things need to be run different and remain that way, I don't care even if meaning the site goes unused. Better to be that, than unused and filled with abuse and garbage only looking bad on me. Crying shame being Mr. Nice guy as a forum admin just never pays off.

 

What annoys me the most though

 

I know there'll be one or two members gone from here today, they'll be happy to see this forum wiped clean and why I delayed doing it. After all, it's what they wanted to see happen because it sets the forum back to square one being started fresh again with nothing listed on it. Not first time I've run a forum board, not first time either these same people have come later on doing "what they do" for that to happen. They've been successful doing it before, now yet again with this forum also.

Changes planned that may never happen

 

So it's been a pretty hectic morning doing all this deleting. And there are plans (of a sort) still to change this forum over to something else instead, moving it away from covering general discussion. For now the forum will remain same as covering it, done enough for one day. Let's see what happens for now until I feel enthusiastic enough to maybe contemplate making further changes here. But it's something that may well not end up happening at all. We'll see.... not sure it's worth the trouble doing it?
