Everyone keeps hyping on about "Flarum and Discourse" being the next generation of new (more modern looking) forum software that will rule the web, both getting hailed as being more mobile friendly also than current older forum software around (free and paid). But having looked at both they seem pretty sparse on features - Flarum more so than Discourse, which I think will hold both back from getting anywhere really, plus both are a pain to install and don't even work used on shared hosting.

 

What do you think, just another passing fad that will get nowhere up against mighty social networking sites?

I think some moved on because they wasn't making enough money from it. One or two switched to other forum platforms like IPS where they felt more money could be made, some others just fell by the waste-side over time. They're all in it for the money and if not paying what they want out it, then it's gonna happen over time
