SneakyDave Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) vbresults has been in a panic that somebody might release an XenForo app that is better than his. Possibly, maybe even one that delivers notifications to mobile devices in less than 5 minutes. Because of this, he's thrown together a seemingly "free" app that XenForo admins can "download now" to try out this "amazing" app that will bring millions of new users to their forums. Unfortunately, it appears his idea of offering a free download of his beta product is more of an email harvesting scheme to sign up and hopefully get approved to have an app installed for you, or something to that affect. Allegedly banned from vBulletin for the same bullying behavior, he also doesn't like customers of his apps leaving honest reviews of his products. I think that's against the app stores' TOS, but we'll just have to wait and see about that. Ziggy Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Surprised his ban at vB has been lifted. Figured after he sent off emails threatening to sue them because they would not remove negitive comments about his mod, they would never lift the ban. Quote

SneakyDave Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 If you're a new XenForo admin, and not familiar with vbresult's history, you would assume that there is an addon available via his "download now" link. Instead, you are presented with a "try" button (which means the paid version, which I mistakenly selected), as well as a button that says "free apps" to apply to. There is no mention that you have to wait 3-4 weeks to be "approved" to try these apps. vbresults also offers the option to have XenForo admins submit the app to the Google Play and Apple App store via their own accounts, with you supporting it yourself. Why would there be a vetting process to get access to that that app code that is "free"? I'm not really sure how vbresults matched my honest review of the TAZ app on the Google Play store with my full name. I suppose Howie had a hand in that. 1up Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Give us an app store, stop calling them "hacks" they're "mods", we need this under an official channel too. Third party sites are just clunky, oh and hackers..uh I mean "creators" shouldn't have to pony up for their own support site if they want to sell a plug-in...wait I mean mod...wait don't we call them "add-ons" now? This is the future we chose. UBB 5.x had a better hacking community and there was more variety than you'll see from any major forum software community today. Pandering to the few people that were charging for hacks was a mistake. Quote
SneakyDave Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 If there was aXenForo app store, things like vbresults app would never see the light of day there. That dude needs complete control over potential customers. He needs their names and emails, and will attempt to bully any questions that he can't answer or may portray his product in an unfavorable light. He's had all kinds of thread control issues on XenForo already, and they don't even host his crappy stuff Quote "I wonder if wife Susie knows about the vile crap he posts on his site and how it fits in with her "youth ministry"?" - Dr. Howard Rosenzweig, former owner of TheAdminZone
1up Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I was speaking more in general and just ranting, sorry for shitting up your thread. I guess my point is he got his claws in there to even be trying something like this in the first place. I see a lot of people abusing the community with $20 per-pop add-ons now and it pisses me off. Especially because most of them are just taking advantage of newbies. Quote
