SneakyDave Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Considering, for a moment, that you trust and support crowdfunding in general, and let's say there's an addon that you think you desperately need, that a developer will create, but only as a crowdfunded project. As Alfa1 states in this post, the Most Generous and Affable Howie offered to play the middleman in the crowdfunding of XenReviews. If TAZ (I guess, Howie, since it is his hobby) offered itself up as an escrow service for such projects, would you support it? SneakyDave Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 I voted "No" simply because if I didn't trust a stranger that I've never met (like Daniel Hood) with "escrowing" the money in his PayPal account, why would I trust TAZ Howie who is even more of a stranger? Does Howie think his reputation is that enormous that people would blindly give him their money to hold for them for a crowdfunding project? What happens if something happened to him? How does the money get refunded, or maybe it doesn't? Luckily, we didn't have to entertain those questions. Instead of offering to be the escrow service, why wouldn't Howie completely finance the project, like Stuart from AVForums does? That seems to me to be a better solution, with the potential to make even more $$$ on future licenses, if the project is a success. SneakyDave Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Totem posting. I don't think Howie would want the responsibility of being an escrow service anyway. He's already admitted to being the sole reason for delaying XenForo's 2.0 release, so who would want more stress piled on top of that? o_O Quote "I wonder if wife Susie knows about the vile crap he posts on his site and how it fits in with her "youth ministry"?" - Dr. Howard Rosenzweig, former owner of TheAdminZone

SneakyDave Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 He did, where? It was almost a year ago. Paul Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Totem posting. I'm not familiar with the phrase. Is that what GTB does when things are slow? I mean, make 3 shorter posts instead of saying everything in one post(?). 1 Quote
Sheldon Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 How could he run crowdfunds when the first time someone starts a site he isn't cool with, he wants to ban them? All different types of forums and owners get involved in these things..... He loves the power, obviously, but he wouldn't be able to do it. Who you think will have more say on who can contribute, the creator or Howie. I'll stick with the tried and true response, How-tastic! He will veto anyone he chooses. Plus, TAZ is, in all honesty, a ghost town. Quote
SneakyDave Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 But think of the drama and eyeballs it would bring to TAZ! Quote "I wonder if wife Susie knows about the vile crap he posts on his site and how it fits in with her "youth ministry"?" - Dr. Howard Rosenzweig, former owner of TheAdminZone
