  1. I was, and probably still am, a big John McCain fan. I lost interest in him when he ran for president, towing the party line and moving a little too conservative for my taste.

    A patriot, and a hero.

"I made a small place for myself in the story of America and the history of my times. What an ingrate I would be to curse the fate that concludes the blessed life I've led. I prefer to give thanks for those blessings, and my love to the people who blessed me with theirs. The bell tolls for me. I knew it would. I hope those who mourn my passing, and even those who don't, will celebrate as I celebrate a happy life lived in imperfect service to a country made of ideals, whose continued success is the hope of the world. And I wish all of you great adventures, good company, and lives as lucky as mine."
    - John McCain

  3. Sorry, not a fan of RINO's.

  4. Shoot @SneakyDave, even one of the Washington Post opinions editor acknowledged him as a RINO as several other writers. When you have a Republican going against core tenets that the party is pushing there are issues.
His ratings in the Republican party in his own home state for him was only at 20%.

Opinion | Republicans rejected McCain and embraced Trump. What does that say about them?
Republicans' anger at McCain speaks volumes about America's tribal politics

What actually cemented his RINO status was the vote on killing ACA, more commonly known as Obamacare. He was far from being a conservative. To often he voted along the liberal line that the party was not for. If you wanted to vote for someone who was actually more independent, then he would have been the one instead of any of the ones in the democratic party since he leaned middle-left.

But Trump is just as much, if not more so a RINO.

Laud him for his military service.... but his political service lacked much to be desired to often.

  5. I don't have an opinion on whether he's a RINO or not. As a "Maverick", he oviously pissef off both sides from time to time by not towing the party line he was associated with at the moment.

Call him what you want. It doesn't make him any less of a hero.

  7. His job was to piss off the other side... but also play ball with his side.
Older Republicans have a more favorable outlook towards him than those younger ones in the party. Not really any different than the Democrats. Both sides are feeling marginalized and are more outspoken on their stances and use SM really well.

One of McCains issues was he worked based upon his personal views... not his electorates views. I sincerely doubt he'd get re-elected if he was still alive and able to run on a true Republican ticket.
