I've never cared that a musical artist I go see live, or buy CD's from, might have or not have the same political beliefs than I, but in the last 5 years, I've seen more political commentaries at live concerts that I really care to see. I've seen Bruce Springsteen twice and John Mellancamp twice. The first times were around 20 years ago, and the second times, for each, were in the last 5 or 6 years. I go to a lot of different types of concerts, but I've never seen an act devote 20 to 30 minutes of political discussion to their concerts like these 2 guys. It was really starting to get on my nerves, especially having paid over $150 for each concert. I don't care abo…

Ok, so "trustworthiness" is a vague term. What I'm ranking the following individuals and forums on are: 1) Can I trust the admin with my email and IP information 2) Can I trust that moderation on the forum will be fair? 3) Can I trust that the forum will be around more than 2 years? A lot of forums are around, and this obviously isn't a complete list, so I'm just adding ones that the small group of membership will be familiar with. Feel free to add any I forgot. I'll provide my ranks and opinions on 5 of them. 1) XenForo.com. XF forums have a love-hate relationship with a lot of their members. They either love the moderation style, or hate it. I think it's been p…

Back in '08, starting when Obama led the democratic nomination for the presidential election, and up until probably his second term, it seems anybody that had issues with Obama's presidential qualifications was labeled a racist. I haven't seen many complaints about "sexist" Americans who don't support Hilary, so I'm wondering if that branding will come after she wins the nomination, or if everybody is finally over that stigma? May sexism won't get the same attention as calling someone a racist would? In all honesty, I think most men, including myself, will label themselves as various degrees of sexist, but nobody wants to be labeled a racist. Are the feminists re…

Didn't even realize this. Crazy John McAffe, the founder of the crappiest anti-virus software around, is running for president. He originally joined the race as a member of the "Cyber Party", whatever that is. In December, he declared himself a Libertarian. McAfee will run as Libertarian Party candidate for president http://static1.businessinsider.com/image/56e424f4910584cc5e8b5d69-693-519/20150708__0709mcafee-2.png

I'm a little torn on my opinion of this. I'd certainly like my kids to be able to choose anything they'd like to pursue their interests, but I don't think I'd want them involved with "reporting" a suspected murder at a crime scene. I've got a daughter that spends an abnormally large amount of time watching videos about surgeries and surgical procedures, and I have to make sure that what she's watching is appropriate for her age, but I try to encourage her curiosity. But homicide reporting? That's a little bit too macabre for me. Even if she's not actually in the house where the murder happened. The homicide story and accompanying video: EXCLUSIVE: MURDER ON NI…

For a number of years now, EllisLab has been marketing their ExpressionEngine product as the be-all end-all in CMS management. A few years ago, they released their 2.0 version of the platform which was built upon CodeIgniter (priced at $299), I thought that was wonderful, but it turns out CodeIgniter was already dying a slow death, and EllisLab, it's maintainer, practically abandoned new development on it. The ExpressionEngine product stagnated, due to a number of reasons, and really didn't take off as much as EllisLab would have liked, even after offering a "personal" version to download for free. The officially licensed forum addon module and multi-site manager were…

Coming from Gawker, this is expected, but I thought it was interesting. One incident doesn't make the guy a dbag, but there seems to be a lot of these types of stories about Kasich out there on the interwebs. The RNC had better work on cleaning up his image a bit if they want to use the "install as prez" button on him. John Kasich Was a Dick Eight Years Ago and He's Still a Dick Today Before John Kasich was a presidential candidate, before he was the governor of Ohio, he was a managing director at Lehman Brothers. A lot of things have changed for Kasich since his days in the private sector, but one thing hasn’t. He was a jerk back then, and he’s still a jerk now. …

If you wanted to start a congregation today, a church of like minded individuals with similar beliefs, how hard would it be, and how would you get started? With social networks and the web today, isn't it just easier and more comfortable to share similàr ideas online? Is a brick and mortar church really necessary anymore? I think it'd be hard to do with the cynicism toward organized religion today. You'd probably have to be a great salesman and have access to a network of people to pull it off, and probably have roots in a more traditional belief system. Of course, people are still joining cults, so maybe it isn't that hard.

Why are there garden variety of political spectrum and why are they fighting each other? Senseless fighting and senseless killing for senseless ideals, all because we cannot agree on the very basic concept of man and society. What is a man? What is a society? Why must society, government and state exist to begin with? We never really try to come to an agreement about them. Instead we fight and kill each other driven almost exclusively by our evolutionary biology tendencies. That's how the first civilization was started, the first kingdom and the first state. None of them was created from the deep thought of a Buddha sitting and meditating under the Bodhi tree. Carlin coul…

I'm not a big fan of Maher, not because of his politics, I just don't find him very funny, as a comedian. But he kind of goes off the liberal rails here, suggesting that the ISIS terrorists should be called out for what they are, islamofascists, radicalized islamists, and the like. From my understanding, most liberals, including Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, and Bernie Sanders, don't want to alienate muslims by referring to the terrorists by these titles. Maher is also a little more conservative in his views of Syrian Refugees, in that he thinks there should be more emphasis on vetting them entering the US.
